A NEW BOOK, JUST PUBLISHED,
WRITTEN BY OUR CLASSMATE, RICH BAILEY

"STORMY"
a gripping novel by Richard L. Bailey

stormyinbaroptmzd.jpg

Born in a raging snowstorm, Stormy grows up in a world of deniers, but comes to view climate change as her life's work as she becomes a global news reporter. During her career she become trapped in a flooded New York subway, kidnapped by terrorists in Africa and pummeled by a hurricane in Florida. Stormy finds solace in an Irish Pub and confides to her editor that she secretly recorded a conversation at the office of oil giant, Exego. Years later an Exego oil platform in the arctic is destroyed by a Russian missile.

Along the way she quotes Goethe, re-writes "The Night Before Christmas" (because by 2040, the North Pole is gone) and modifies the Gettysburg address. Despite suffering the loss of family members, she perseveres, creates a new political party in the year 2068 and campaigns to become the president of the United States.

In 2072, new NASA satellite technology recognizes distinct signs of civilization on Venus, raising fears that the Venus syndrome will repeat itself on Earth.

Uncle Pierre joins the Climate Posse, Las Vegas is abandoned and her congressman / husband George is held hostage by Washington politicians.

He traveled extensively while studying ecology and natural history, and received a Doctorate of Forest Resources from the University of Georgia. He has worked in the state and federal government sectors, for consulting firms and in private industry. He currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area where he directs The Lake Merritt Institute, a small non-profit, community organization, and writes about climate change.

Harry,

The reality for my situation is too many conflicts of scheduling and plans already committed to.  I do not think that I will be able to get to Chicago from Florida this year.  My wife and I hate to miss this opportunity to reconnect with old classmates, but we have already committed to three 2,000 mile trips this year and another one would literally break my back (including another one in April).  It is hard to think that I am over committed in my retirement, but I am still new to the situation.  So I hope that everyone stays in good health and is available and interested in another reunion in the next few years when I can get to Chicago.

Best wishes for the 50th, sorry my wife and I will miss it,

Bob Estrup

Harry,

Thanks for the reminder. Unfortunately at this point it looks like my
wife Jennifer and I will not be able to make it to the reunion. I'll let
you know if we're able to get there after all, but please don't reserve
the second banquet room on our account.

Thanks also for putting together the class website. I've enjoyed
browsing through it. By the way, do you have a list of who all are
planning on coming? I guess that I'll see that on
https://lanetech62.tripod.com/ after the reunion if we don't get there in
person.

Thanks,

Dennis R. Goldenson

JOHN AND KAY SILVA

John and Kay have residences in IL and AZ. He is a retired Architectural Drafting Teacher. He invites other classmates to share memories. He has fond memories of skating at Riverview Rink with the HS Roller Skating Club. Mr. Dix, the foundry teacher used to kick butt! John still has his wood shop project: the shield and Indian head from Mr. Robert's class. He says you could get punished for coming to school without a belt. He remembers getting stuck in the snow with his father's car on prom night.

Sorry, can't make it this spring; trying to decide if I should spend $3500 - $5000 on hearing aids and the wife wants to remodel the bathroom and things are unsettled at the office.

BUT, I may be in Chicago for a few days in July or August, depending on if and when Susan gets a teaching job for a week in Decatur, IL and on the all important fishing schedule in Ontario

So take lots of photos, raise a few for me and share the memories.

This is a note to say thank you to all of those folks that were involved in setting up the reunion. Do know that I enjoyed myself a great deal and it was nice to reaquaint myself with old friends.
I'm sure that setting up all of the arrangements involved substantial time and effort. The informal character of the reunion was "just right".

Thanx again and I will look forward to renewing some old friendships.

Jim Bland (4/30/12)

Wayne, Harry,

I enjoyed the evening. The food was good, and it was good to see everyone.

Thanks for all your work.

Chuck Holmes (5/2/12)

Hi Guys:  To say the least it was fantastic.  What a great time.  Wanted to spend more time with everyone but couldn't do it.

Wayno (Wayne Kurey 4/30/12)

Thanks to you all for the work and care that went into planning and
actualizing the 50th reunion of the January 1962 graduating class. I
really enjoyed myself and learned a lot about the old and new Lane. We
have good reason to be thankful for the opportunity we had to attend
Lane. At the time I am sure most of us thought Lane was a "typical"
high school. It took me a number of years as an educator before I
began to realize how unique Lane was and still is.
Douglas MacPherson (4/30/12)

Harry:  Thanks for all your work on a great weekend.  It couldn't have been better.  Jim Bishop

A BIG THANK YOU to all of you and anybody else who had a part tp play in a very enjoyable weekend. It was great to catch-up with old friends and just share our life stories wish are so very important. Thanks again to all of you for a job well done.
Carl Jerzyk

Had a great time at the reunion. Thank you for all the hard work in planning this event. Hope to see you again in the future.
